Another artist suggested during the crit was Ralph Steadman, british illustrator best known for his work with Hunter S. Thompson for Fear and Loathing. My main focus is the lizard lounge drawing from the book and how his style could inspire me.

I really love the idea of anthropomorphic creatures and lizards just seem to look really slick in suits, although these look pretty trippy. The way the colour splattered over the image really translates the whole surreal nature of this scene and the overall novel. Although my colours would need to more muted to suit my dream state concept, this illustration has kind of won me round on the whole colour vs no colour debate i've been having with myself. The way the black lines work so well with colour has made me think it's all going to be okay! I love the way the colour just appears as a wash under the black lines of the scales on the lizards legs.
